Have you been wondering if you need to see an eye doctor? Problems with your vision may range from minor to severe. However, to make sure that you are protecting your vision, it is a good idea for you to get your eye examined every year, especially if you have a history of vision problems in your family.

If your vision seems to be deteriorating lately but you're not sure if it warrants an eye exam, here are some signs that it does.

You are High Risk

As mentioned before, having a history of vision problems in your family is one of the major signs that you need to get your eyes checked every year. If your family history includes glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration you must get your eye examined periodically to make sure that you are not developing any of these conditions.

Your Vision Is Deteriorating

Some more obvious signs that you need to get your eye checked is when your vision begins to worsen. If you are having difficulty reading signs on the road while you are driving, or you find yourself squinting a little bit more every time you try to read a page, this is a sign that your vision is worsening.

You need to visit your eye doctor and get your eyes examined as quickly as you can. The longer you wait the worse your vision will get with time. An eye exam doesn't take very long and it will not cut into your day too much. This is one act of self-care that you cannot afford to put off.

You are Seeing Things

If you're starting to see zigzag lines around objects as well as people, you may be experiencing macular degeneration. You need to get an eye doctor to take a look at your vision as soon as you can.

Another thing many people experience is seeing halos around sources of light. Sometimes when halos are seen, it means that cataracts may be developing. Cataracts are completely treatable when they are caught early, so there's no need to lose your vision over them. Just schedule an eye exam. It's better to be safe than sorry.

Vision care is something that you should never take for granted. An eye examination is easy to do and if you suspect that there is something wrong with your vision you should take action, as soon as possible.
